Sneak Peek... Snow Scenes

We're back today with a third gorgeous Christmas and Winter season set that's really versatile. Set the scene for Christmas and winter with this darling silhouette set illustrated by Lauren Pope. From an elegant deer enjoying the new fallen snow to a pair of children ready to bring their snowman to life, this set offers many mix-and-match options for you to create different "Snow Scenes!" Set measures 4" by 6". The Design Team has gorgeous winter silhouette creations to show you in our Blog Hop today.

I have to admit... this is one of my favourite of our five new stamp sets for September.  There is just something about taking simple silhouettes and designing a scene of your very own.  So that's what I did using this fabulous new stamp set.

Step 1:  I stamped a few of the silhouette images from the Snow Scenes stamp collection on a piece of Flourishes Classic White Cardstock using black ink.  Then I prepared some masks using some Post-It Notes.  I tore the edges to get an uneven effect for the ground and I die cut a circle for a moon.

Step 2:  I placed my masks on my cardstock to make a moon in the sky and a back ground landscape edge.

Step 3:  I first sponged on a layer of Shaded Lilac Distress Ink using my Tim Holtz Ink Blending Tool.  I didn't worry too much about streaks of ink or heavy spots of ink because I knew I was going to blend and layer more inks over top.  Plus... the winter sky can look blustery and full of snow laden clouds anyway!

Step 4: Then I sponged on a layer of Dusty Concord Distress Ink, deepen the colour of the sky.

Step 5:  For the final layer of my sky, I sponged on a layer of Faded Jeans Distress Ink, leaving it towards towards the top of the sky only.  I then carefully peeled off the bottom layers of my Post-It Note mask.

Step 6: This time, I repositioned my Post-It Note pieces in a slightly different configuration and lower than my sky line, leaving the rough edges of the mask at the top again. I took my Milled Lavendar Distress Ink and sponged a very light layer of ink working up from my masks, leaving the tops of the snow drifts whiter.

Step 7:  I repositioned my masks a few more times, inking again with my Milled Lavendar Distress Ink and only inking from the mask up.

Step 8:  I watered down a drop or two of white acrylic paint and then dipped an old toothbrush into the fluid paint.  I used my finger nail to scratch across the bristles to create tiny droplets of paint to mimic snow and stars in the sky.  I also matted my panel with a piece of Flourishes Classic Black Cardstock.

Step 9:  I took a Stardust Sukura pen and outlined the trees and deer to make it appear like the moonlight was reflecting off of them.

Here is my completed card using a sentiment from the Snow Scenes stamp set and some sparkly Silver Metallic String...
