Tulip Tutorial!

Flourishes is having their RELEASE WEEK beginning today!  I always love this week because I love visiting all of the Senior Design Team blogs looking at their AMAZING card creations using the newest of the new!

Today is the official start to the sneak peeks and this is the first one for the week...

Isn't it amazingly beautiful!?!  I love tulips... in fact I love the multi-toned tulips that have those deep rich edges.  I always look for them in the grocery store at this time of year to add to my dining room table.

This weekend I'm teaching a class to some lovely ladies at a crop.  Here's the card we're going to make.  It uses Ranger Distress Inks to colour the bouquet...

Tulips
Here's the colouring process I used for my image.

1.  Prepare a piece of water colour paper using the Perfect Printing Pouch.  The powder in this pouch allows for any excess embossing powder to be "tapped" off and not stick where it's not wanted.
2.  Using Versamark ink, stamp the tulip bouquet from the "Tulips for Friends" stamp set.
3.  Apply fine black embossing powder to the image.  Tap off the excess powder.
4.  Heat emboss the powder.

TIP:  Grab a piece of plastic and apply the surface of your ink pad to the plastic (repeat for other ink colours).  The plastic acts like a painter's palette and it's easily wiped away or cleaned up.

5.  Using a water pen (or paint brush & water), colour each tulip using "Scattered Straw" Distress Ink.
6.  Colour the base of each tulip pulling up the watered down "Dried Marigold" Distress Ink.
7.  Colour the base of each tulip again with the deeper "Wild Honey" Distress Ink.
8.  Colour all the leaves and stems using "Bundled Sage" Distress Ink.
9.  Add some "Peeled Paint" Distress Ink to the leaves and stems.  Additional ink where your shadows would be.
10.  Colour the vase using "Tattered Rose" Distress Ink.  Follow the hints for the shadows on the vase that the artist, Marcella Hawley, has drawn on the image (a BIG reason why I LOVE Flourishes stamps!).  I also added some hints of this ink to the tulips as well.

I hope you have liked my super simple colouring tutorial today.  I hope you'll grab your Distress Inks and try this technique!

Don't forget to stop by the Flourishes blog this week.  Just by leaving comments on the DT blogs each day, you could WIN some brand new stamps!!!  Good luck!
