Honeycomb & Butterflies

Today is the day all of you bargain hunters have waited for! Prices are now officially as low as they can go in our Gambler's Sale at Flourishes -- meaning everything left in the store is 60% off. That's right -- EVERYTHING!

The gamble is over and now the rush is on to pick up anything left in the store that you've had your eye on. When items sell out, they will be gone for good -- never to return again. From now on, all prices will stay at 60% off until stock sells off. Simply use the code GAMBLERS60 in the coupon box at the time of check out to get this fabulous discount!  THIS SALE ENDS TODAY!!!!

One of the minor trends that our industry has is honeycomb or hexagon shapes so today I thought I'd hop on that trend wagon and create something fun yet flat... and here it is!
I started off by cutting a panel of Classic White Cardstock and then I stamped my script back ground using the "Sweet Nature" stamp set. I added a very thin layer of white gesso over top of it to make it fade into the back ground a bit.  Then I stamped some of the blooms from the "Sweet Nature" stamp set on top and also the small butterfly from the "Friendship & Flowers" stamp set in "Tuxedo Black" ink from Memento.  The sentiment is also a stamp from the "Sweet Nature" collection.

Then I took some Stampin' Up! "Taken With Teal" ink and stamped my "Honeycomb" back ground stamp on the central area of the panel. You can see some hints of it around the boldest butterfly.  The butterflies were stamped using Memento "Tuxedo Black" ink but I stamped each one right after the other; so the first one is rich and dark, the second below that is more muted and the third one is much more subtle.  This technique is called "stamping off".

I used a stencil from The Crafters Workshop, 'Balzer Designs' called "Mini Tiny Circles" in the top right hand corner and another Crafters Workshop that looks like chicken wire and added some soft orange gesso texture.   I painted all of my blooms, butterflies and back ground using Dylusions "Lemon Zest" ink spray,  Tattered Angels' "Valencia" Chalkboard Glimmer Mist and Stampin' Up! "Taken With Teal" ink.

To finish off my card, I used the medium toned teal cardstock from the "Emerald Coast" Paper Collection and the soft yellow cardstock as my card base from the "Sunflower" Paper Collection.

I just love all the layers and subtle textures of this card front.  I hope you do too!

The Flourishes Design Team has been at it again -- creating beautiful cards to show off and inspire! So, head on over and see.....

Thanks for stopping by and again, don't forget to use the code GAMBLERS60 for 60% off your entire order!  SALE ENDS TODAY!!!

Spread Your Wings

Howdy everyone!  It's the third Wednesday of the month so that means that it's my turn to share the newest Card Sketch Challenge over at Splitcoaststampers!

This month I decided to add something a little different to the sketch... an element that hangs off the page!  Yup... I thought it would give people something different to create.  So here's my sketch for the challenge this week, SC476...
http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/forums/card-sketches-f41/

And here is what I did with my sketch....

I chose to use the super cute Garden Fairies stamp set from Flourishes and it's corresponding Silhouette Cut File, here.

All of my patterned papers are from the Bo Bunny "Pincushion Collection" and I used the following Spellbinder dies: Romantic Rectangles and Decorative Labels 28.  I rounded the corners using my WRMK corner chomper.

To colour image, I used the following Copic Markers:
BV0000, BV31, E00, E01, R000, R00, R01, R12, R14,
R20, W4, Y00, YG11, YG13, YG17, YG21, YR21, YR24 and YR31.

I really wanted to have my fairy POP off of my card so I paper pierced her in numerous pieces to make her jump of her back ground.

I also used this week's colour palette from the Splitcoast Colour Challenge, CC466:
Wild Wasabi
Strawberry Slush
Daffodil Delight
The dessert option this week is to make it a feminine/floral card.

Thanks for stopping by!

Timeless Tuesday ~ Lots of Dots!

 Timeless-Tuesday-New-Logo
Hello fellow Flourishes fans! It's Tuesday and we're here with another fantastic Timeless Tuesday Challenge for you! Have you checked out the latest and greatest Gambler's Sale this week? You don't want to miss this... it's 50% off everything in the store. Things go fast, so shop now to ensure you get all those stamps on your "must have" list! Click here for more details and your shopping code.

Hey gang... welcome back to another fabulous Timeless Tuesday Challenge.  This week, the fabulous Jenny is our hostess and she is challenging us to...

There's nothing better than DOTS right everyone?  When in need of a fabulous addition to your cards or art work, why not try a lotta dots!

Today I thought I'd share another "experiment" with you!  I love to mix patterns and layer inks and use stencils and this card uses it ALL!

I began with a piece of Classic White Cardstock and I took the fun cycling bear from the newest Flourishes stamp release, "Under the Big Top" and I thought... let's try the "kiss" technique with these stamps since the whole stamp set contains the perfect kind of stamp for this technique... silhouettes!

What's the "kiss" technique you ask?  Well here's how to do it...

First you want to find a base stamp that doesn't have a lot of detail and has a lot of flat surface to it... silhouette style stamps are perfect for this.  Next you want to find 2 colours of ink that look okay together when you mix or layer them on one another; I chose Memento "Cantaloupe" and "Love Letter". And finally, you need another detail type stamp like an ornate back ground stamp.  For my detail stamp, I chose one of my favourite stamps, Vintage Wallpaper.  (Another good one would be our "Antique Lace" stamp.)

Take your darker ink and ink up your detail stamp.  You can try all kinds of colour combos but experiment first on scrap paper to see what inks work best together.  I mean... if you don't want to have green on your project don't choose yellow and blue ink = hence they make green when combined!

Next, ink up your silhouette stamp using the lighter ink.

Then take that silhouette stamp and literally lay it right on top of your inked detailed stamp hence you are kissing the two stamps together!

Next stamp your now kissed stamp onto your cardstock...
VOILA!!  Your silhouette image has picked up the darker ink from the detail stamp and its stuck to your silhouette image stamp.  Now you have a beautiful pattern all over your silhouette in only a few super simple steps!  Cool right?

Here's a close up of my card front detail...
Did you notice...
  • I have pink polka dots on the front panel? (That is what our challenge is all about this week!!!)  I made them by spraying my Copic Markers with an air brush through a Tim Holtz Layering Stencil called "Dot Fade".  There are even some stars in the back ground if you look closely (I used Copic Blender Solution and the Tim Holtz stencil "Stars" to remove the ink!).
  • The dark pink polka dots on my ruffled ribbon?  Yup... I took some plain white Seam Binding Ribbon, air brushed it to match my Copic Markers (RV23, RV25) and also used my "Dot Fade" stencil again to add dots with Copic RV29!
  • Even my back ground has more Vintage Wallpaper stamped on it and a tiny strip of the fabulous Classic Black Cardstock to add a touch of black back in.
  • I used the same kiss technique for my cycling bear but I took a Copic Multiliner 0.3 and traced around the edge of the image to make her stand out a bit more!
  • All of the white back ground of the card base is covered in circus balls and steps using the kiss technique.  It turned out so cute and unique!
I hope you enjoyed your stop hear and maybe even learned something new.  Be sure to visit the DT's blogs and leave them a little blog love...
Thanks for stopping by! We hope you'll join us this week for our fantastic challenge.

Are the items on your wish list still in the store? If so, you might want to act now before they are going, going, GONE for good! This week, all prices STOREWIDE are 50% off!

Why is this sale a gamble? Well, ALL of the items now in the store will be sold off -- never to return again. Well... I've done it again today!  We're only 3 days after Valentine's Day and I have again... made another Easter card... Yup!  And I love it!!!  Well it is only 29 62 days away so I guess that's not too bad right?

I decided to create an easel card with a twist... the twist being that the front of the card is actually a piece of clear cardstock (acetate) and it reveals what's inside the Easter basket...

Yummy.... look at all that sweet goodness in there!  Mmm... Peeps... one of my sinful favourites!  LOL! (That's a LOT of masking... but it was fun to create!)

My basket, the bow and all of the of its contents are all images in the "Easter Baskets" stamp set.  I stamped all my images onto Classic White Cardstock using Memento "Tuxedo Black" ink.  I masked off a large oval and airbrushed the sky and the grass and then coloured the remainder of the image with Copic Markers:
B00, B01, B02, B04, BG11, BV01, BV31, E25,
E27, FY1, FYG1,G02, R000, R01, R27, R32, R35,
R37, Y0000, Y04, Y11, YG21, YG23, YG25 and YR61

Here is my easel card all propped up. I decided to use an elaborate paper tab to hold it up.  This cuts down on the bulk of the card and folds down nice and flat inside the card!

Here's a close up that detail...

I actually used the Vintage Wallpaper stamp to add some lacy-ness to the top panel of my white cardstock. I added some Distress Ink too for a touch of "old".

Thanks for stopping by today!  I hope I've inspired you to grab your stamps and start creating some fun Easter card creations for all of those special people in your life.  Happy stamping!

Timeless Tuesday ~ "Wood" You Be Mine?

 Timeless-Tuesday-New-Logo
Hello fellow Flourishes fans! It's Tuesday and we're here with another fantastic Timeless Tuesday Challenge for you! Have you checked out the latest and greatest Gambler's Sale this week? You don't want to miss this... it's 40% off everything in the store. Things go fast, so shop now to ensure you get all those stamps on your "must have" list! Click here for more details and your shopping code.

Hey gang... welcome back to another fabulous Timeless Tuesday Challenge.  This week, the fabulous Katie is our hostess and she is challenging us to...

In the summer, I happened up this cute patterned paper by We R Memory Keepers called "Happy Campers" and I fell in love with the colour scheme and patterned papers inside.  Since this collection had not 1, not 2 but 5 different wood grain papers I thought it would be prefect for my card this week.  And what stamp set would be more perfect for these papers you ask?.... well... S'more Fun! of course!

I started off by die cutting some Classic Ivory Cardstock in two different shapes and stamping my sentiment and images from the S'more Fun! stamp collection in Memento "Rich Cocoa" ink.

Then I coloured my image and highlighted my sentiment using the following Copic Markers:
BG11, BG13, E27, E33, E34, E53, E55, E81,
N0, N2, N3, Y17, YR12, YR18, YR21 and YR31

I stamped some chevrons suing some Memento "Cantaloupe" ink from the So Distressed stamp set and then added them along with some "Peach" Seam Binding Ribbon and some fun buttons.

To complete the inside of my card, I stamped the cute little camper image from the S'more Fun! stamp collection in Memento "Cantaloupe" ink and some more chevrons from the So Distressed stamp collection.

I hope you'll play along with our wood themed challenge this week.  Be sure to visit the DT's blogs and leave them a little blog love...
Thanks for stopping by! We hope you'll join us this week for our fantastic challenge.
