You Mean the World to Me!

The moment I saw this week's Mojo Monday card sketch; #97 I knew exactly what I was going to do!

I grabbed one of my 3 inch Clear Scraps "Circles" given to us to create with for this month at myStamp BOX and my Copics and set to work.

First I went and found a "cartoon" image of the Earth and resized it in Photoshop to 3 inches and printed it out on my computer. I peeled off the protective covering off of the Clear Scraps shape and used my Copic airbrush to colour the water of my image. I wasn't too worried about colouring the land areas on the image as I knew the green Copic marker would take it off as I coloured the land areas in. I quickly coloured the land masses with two different coloured green Copics.

I traced the 3 inch circle on my card to figure out the positioning of the image and then I took some green ink and stamped on my leaves from the myStamp BOX "Floating Leaves" stamp set. I masked them using some Post It notes and air brushed them with a soft yellowy-green Copic colour.

I created a greeting in my photo editing program on the computer and then I die cut a label shape from my Spellbinder's Nestabilites and ran it through my computer printing the sentiment on it.

I wrapped a thin piece of green ribbon around my card, taping it underneath the Earth image then I adhered my Earth arcylic piece down (that I had backed with a white piece of cardstock) and added my sentiment on. A few plastic half beads from the dollar store and voila.....

Tutorial: Creating Landscapes with Copics

Today I have three cards posted on the myStamp BOX blog. Make sure to check them out!

For two of my cards, I created some very simple landscapes. Here's a step by step tutorial on how I created them.

For this technique, I used my Copic markers, my Copic air brush system and some scraps of paper (a curve and a scalloped circle shape).

1. Place your curved piece of scrap paper onto your paper surface. I lightly sprayed along the edge of the shape using a light Copic green marker.

2. Reposition the curve to create another hill. Spray again along the curve.

3. Reposition the curve again. This time to create the illusion of depth, I used a richer, slightly darker shade of green Copic marker.

4. Reposition the curve and layer your marker to achieve your desired landscape. I filled in the colour in between my hills to create a unified design.

5. To create some soft clouds in the sky, place your scalloped circle on your page..... start working from the ground up. Spray lightly over the top of the scalloped edge.

6. Reposition the scalloped circle all over the desired area. Spray colour according to your desired effect. Work your way up towards the top of your sky.

Here is my sample of the landscape and sky effect used on my 2 cards.

This same technique can be created using ink and a soft sponge if you do not have an air brush. Just be very careful with your application of colour. Sponges can leave lines or marks due to the the surface you have your ink on. Practice first and have fun creating your next landscape!

Here's an example of one of my cards where I used the "hill" technique. The sky is just lightly sprayed here and there with blue Copic marker to achieve a soft cloudy effect.

Have a great day and don't forget to check out my 3 card examples of creating a scene on the myStamp BOX blog.

For those of you who like BLOG CANDY and are participating in my month long blog candy contest (details here), to earn a BONUS name in the ballot box, go to the myStamp BOX blog and tell me which one of the three cards you like the best and leave a comment for me on my blog post there. Good luck!

Have Some Lemonade....

My delivery of the new BasicGrey "Lemonade" collection came in the other day... YIPPEE! It's been calling my name for the last few days to "use me... use me!" So last night after all my projects were done, I sat down and played.....

I first created a fun Congrats card for my stash... I just love the "Out West" stamp set from Gina K. Designs. I actually created this for Gina's StampTV colour challenge for this week; to use green, brown and white/cream.

The second card I created was for the StampTV sketch challenge. I pulled out my "So Grateful" stamp set and used the sketch to create this card....

I just love that Lemonade collection from BasicGrey!

Now stay tuned for tomorrow... I have fun tutorial and post on the myStamp BOX blog to share! Here's a little sneak peak for you.....

Have a great "hump" day!

I love markers!

Yesterday, DS, DH and I went to Edmonton. DH was looking at some equipment we needed for the house that we couldn't find anywhere closer to home (6 hours away). The night before, I Googled a bunch of scrapbooking places to plug into the GPS just in case we had some extra time in the city.

After seeing the piece of equipment we went to see in Edmonton, we drove to The Urban Scrapbook store where I met the two wonderful owners, Lori and Pat, signed a few copies of Scrapbook and Cards Today magazines for some lucky customers and had a lovely chat. They have the funkiest "man chair" in their store and the BEST area for your kids to play!! I wish I lived closer!!!! I picked up some fun alphabet stickers and their July kit that was packed with some SEI products I've been dieing to use.

We then made one last stop at Delta Art & Drafting Supplies, a store that carries an incredible amount of artist supplies. This is where I found the deal I had been waiting for.... Copics.... on sale!!! So I treated myself to a large set of 72 as a belated birthday present and saved $226 because they were on sale!!!! This is the set I got.... set C. The original set had 5 sketch markers I had in my collection at home (it pays to bring your Copic colour chart with you to know what you have and don't have) so the owner of the shop let me exchange the 5 duplicate markers I already had for 5 I needed! I will certainly be shopping there again in the future!
Hope you're having a great weekend!
